I made the yo-yo's using material leftover from her shirt and banner. I have never made yo-yo's before but they were super easy to do. I loved adding that little touch that makes the layout that much more personal.

I finally got around to scrapbooking this photo of Siena when she was 1 week old with mickey ears!

I used the Sweetness collection from Pink Paislee that I received from a RAK on their blog. When I first completed this layout it seemed like the edges of the yellow paper where not finished so I trimmed my layout by an 1/8 inch on each side and added cardstock as the background. Now I feel like the layout is complete.

Since I have only messed around in photoshop a couple times I watched this video from Ali Edwards and used her free template to complete the layout below about Siena's first Mardi Gras parade.

The following layout I created about taking Siena to the park for the first time. The photos I printed as a 8x10 collage at Walgreens (for free during their sale last week!) and cut it down so the top and bottom borders were equal to the side borders.

Then I pulled out a bunch of pink and green scraps from various manufacturers: Fancy Pants, Basic Grey, My Minds Eye, and October Afternoon. The title is made using October Afternoon, My Little Shoebox and American Crafts letters.

Journaling: We took Siena to the park today for the first time. We went to City Park, which has a playground for 2-3 year olds and one for older children. It was Sunday morning and very quiet at the park – no one was on the younger playground. Siena was not really interested in the play equipment though; she just wanted to go see the dogs in the dog park. However, we did take her down the slide, swung her in the swings and chased her around a little bit.

I had saw somewhere that this family has a tradition of camping out under the Christmas tree and I thought that sounded like a lot of fun. Since Siena is too young to camp out, we sat under the Christmas tree and read Christmas books while listening to Christmas music.

We went to the mall and while we were eating lunch, Siena kept pointing to the carousel and watching as it went around in circle. When we were finished I took Siena on the carousel. She sat on the horse, but it took a long time before it started so she was getting antsy and was wanting to get down. When the carousel started going, Siena was a little unsure at first, but then I started going up and down as her horse went and she thought that was pretty funny.

We got to see our friends who live in Chicago and meet their twin girls today. I did not know how Siena was going to react around 3 month olds. Siena was so cute when she reach over and touch Audrey's hand. She also tried to share her sippy cup, but I think she got a little jealous when daddy was holding Audrey. It was great to see them.

Today I finally captured Siena playing "bucket head". Me and her have this routine of dumping all the toys out of this green basket and putting it on our heads and I say "bucket head, bucket head" and she laughs before passing the bucket to me to put on my head.

I don't have a photo for today, however I have a short video that I might snap a photo out of once I upload it. Siena took her first steps today walking several steps to me, to grandpa and to Sugar Ray. She is still a little unsteady, but she is gaining confidence.

Today I finally got my christmas cards from Shutterfly and addressed them to be mailed out. And of course Siena helped me. I love our christmas card this year and really love the quality of them.

We went to ZooLights at the Baton Rouge Zoo. There were tons of animal shapes made out of lights throughout the zoo. Siena loves Christmas lights and seemed to enjoy seeing all the different colors and shapes.

I am considering leaving the tree up all year long...Siena finds so many different ways to play with it. She got a roll of my baker's twine and unwound it before decorating the tree with it. When I tried to put some twine on the tree, Siena grabbed what I had put on and then rearranged it how she wanted it. And yes my blue lights are not working, I think Siena did something to them...

December 7th

It's been so cold here the last couple days that we have had to bundle Siena up to go outside. I call her my marshmallow girl in her jacket. I feel so bad for her when she is in it but it's so funny at the same time - she can't move. She just sits there with her arms out and her top half of her body completely still.

I do not have a photo for today so I took my lead from Ali Edwards' loving post.

Loving how long and light Siena's hair is getting and how it tends to do whatever it wants.

Loving spending the extra time with Siena from working only part time.

Loving the combination of the white lights and blue lights on my Christmas tree (well only the bottom third, but I plan to rectify this for next year.

Loving to watch Siena as she touches, pushes and explores items with her fingers.

Loving how Siena pretends to share her food with Sugar Ray and how gentle he normal is with her.

Siena decided this morning that she did not like how I had stung the blue lights on the christmas tree and moved them all around on the branches until she got them just right.

December 5th

Siena's baby first christmas ornament is a Hallmark Keepsake. She always seems to grab at this ornament when I am holding her near the tree. On the back of the ornament is her name and birth date.

December 6th

St. Nicholas visited and left presents in our shoes (or beside them). Siena got a Little People Christmas Set with Santa, his sled, a reindeer, an elf, a christmas tree and a present. We played that Santa was flying to the "house" (box that it came with), going down the chimney and leaving a present for the good little girl.

I am participating in Ali Edwards December Daily. December Daily is a month long album/project that documents the 25 days leading up to Christmas to help celebrate the holiday season.

December 1st

On the first day of December, we continued with our tradition of having an advent calendar from Germany. I love looking for each day on the calendar (sometimes they can be tricky to find) and seeing what each chocolate is shaped like.

December 2nd

Siena is in love with the Christmas tree! She is constantly holding her arm out and pointing towards the library so she can go see the tree. She likes to look at and touch the lights, the ornaments and the presents. Her favorite activity is to pull the tags off the presents (I hope everyones gets the right present this year).

December 3rd

We went to the Festival of Lights in downtown Baton Rouge and stopped at the Old Governor's Mansion to get Siena's photo taken with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Siena did not like me leaving her on strangers' laps. After the photo, while we were waiting for it to print, Santa walked up to try and talk to Siena and she grabbed on so tight to my shirt and then started shaking-she was so scared that I was going to leave her with him again. I felt terrible that the few seconds that she was on their laps frightened her so much.

December 4th

We went to A Dickens of a Christmas at Oakley House. I really wanted a cute picture for our Christmas card. In addition, we saw the house decorated for Christmas and sampled food prepared on the hearth. Siena really enjoyed their bread - she ate a bunch and had it all over her face, her clothes and Kip's shirt.

Epcot: Food and Wine Festival - Belgium & South Korea

This year two new countries were added to the Food and Wine Festival Marketplace booths: Belgium and South Korea.

In Belgium, we tried the Freshly Baked Waffles with Berry Compote and Whipped Cream and the Godiva Chocolate Ice Coffee. Both were delicious.

The waffle was cooked flawlessly and the berry compote was sweetened perfectly. Plus, priced at $2.75 you could not beat it.

The Godiva Chocolate Ice Coffee is made with Godiva Chocolate Liqueur. It was the perfect early afternoon perk me up drink.

In South Korea, the Lettuce Wraps with Roast Pork and Kimchi Slaw were fantastic and ordered multiple times by members in our group. The wraps were only $2.75 and full of flavor.

While the Barbecue Short Rib with Steamed Rice and Cucumber Kimchi was good. The overall census was that the Lettuce Wraps were much better.

The Bohae Bokbunjajoo (Black Raspberry Rice Wine) is a moderately sweet wine. I really enjoy fruit wines and this one was added to my list to try again.

Halloween at Magic Kingdom

I love to visit Disney World during a festival or when the parks are decorated for a holiday. Don’t get me wrong visiting Disney World during any time of year is wonderful, but the holiday or festival provides a little extra magic.

On our last trip to Disney World, the Magic Kingdom was decorated for Halloween. Well not the whole park, just the entrance, Main Street and the hub.

When you go through the turnstiles, the first thing you notice are the giant pumpkins in front of the train station and the banners decorating the station.

After you reemerge from the tunnel onto Town Square, you will find scarecrows welcoming you.

The buildings lining Main Street are decorated with banners and pumpkins. Be sure to take some time and look at the carvings on the pumpkins that adorn each building – so perfectly Disney.

In the hub, new Halloween inspired statues have been placed.

When leaving Magic Kingdom, right before you go through the tunnel/under the train station make sure to look up.

Epcot: Food and Wine Festival - Greece

I could have stayed at the Greece booth at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival the whole time we were there. I loved all their food choices!

The Greek Salad with Pita Bread was wonderful. The feta cheese, olives and dressing were perfect. The pita bread was great to soak up the leftover dressing on my plate.

The Spanakopita is what I refer to as spinach pie. It was flaky and yummy.

The Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki was one of my favorite dishes at the whole festival. I loved the Tzatziki sauce and the pita bread was soft and delicious. I think I had this dish three times at the festival....

Epcot - Food and Wine Festival: Mexico

During the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot, 28 food booths are set up from different countries around the world. Each food booth offers tapas sized food, wine and/or beer and/or cocktail drink. It is a great way to sample different foods that you would not normally try.

One of the food booths that I really enjoyed was Mexico. The Tamal de Pollo was wonderful...the chicken mixture inside was flavorful and delicious.

The Esquites (Pan-Fried Corn and Spices) was ok. All the flavor and spices were on top, so once you got past the top layer it was just plain corn kernels.

My husband really enjoyed the Taco de Chilorio. It was full of flavor and the pork was cooked perfectly.

I didn't get a photo of the Passion Fruit Margarita, but I could have drank it all day. It was so good. I noticed that the Passion Fruit Margarita was on the newly renovated La Cantina de San Angel menu...I hope it tastes as good.

Review: 3D Disney’s Dessert Discovery, Epcot

3D: Disney’s Dessert Discovery is a special event in celebration of Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival. My family and I attended the October 8, 2010 party in the World ShowPlace Pavilion. Disney World advertised the event as, “…a dessert lover's dream! During the Festival, select Thursday & Friday evenings become truly delicious with a variety of desserts and samplings of cordials certain to please any sweet tooth. Afterwards enjoy V.I.P. viewing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.” This special event really was magical and my family and I enjoyed every moment of it.

This event is held in the World ShowPlace Pavilion which is located between Canada and United Kingdom, behind two large brown doors. You first check-in across from the building on the lagoon side of the World Showcase. You need to have your entire group together upon check-in, as you will each receive a wristband that will allow you access to the party and then later into the special VIP viewing area of IllumiNations. As a side note: the cast members even put a “Under 21” wristband on my 9-month old daughter; which was a little excessive.

Upon entering the World ShowPlace Pavilion, we were each handed a pair of 3D glasses (more on the glasses later.) We were held in the entrance of the building until 7:00 p.m., when the curtain opened allowing us our first look at the party. The room was beautiful! The tables were covered with tablecloths and the chairs had cloth covers on them. There were candles on each table and ambiance lighting throughout the room. In addition, a band was playing on a small stage. There were several dessert buffets set up around the room each one consisted of two different stations of desserts with each station being repeated in another section of the room. Each dessert buffet had two alcohol offerings on each. In addition, along the walls were beverage tables with water, lemonade, pomegranate lemonade, ice tea, hot tea, and coffee.

The seating was not assigned, but it seemed like everyone had a place to sit. The lines for the desserts and alcoholic drinks were long at first but as the night progressed they decreased significantly. You do not have to worry about the desserts running out, because the cast members are constantly refilling.

The first dessert station I tried was the "miniature pastries", which included pistachio cannoli, chocolate eclairs, cream horns and linzer diamonds. I think the chocolate eclairs were one of my favorite desserts of the night...I ended up going back for more.

The second station I hit was the "chocolate" one. This station included biscotti, macaroons, tea cookies and truffles. When I went through the first time there were no macaroons, but when I went back to take photos they had magically appeared. I was really disappointed in this station, besides the truffles (which chefs were rolling in front of us), nothing else was that great. This station could have used more "chocolate" items like fudge or a homemade chocolate chocolate chip cookie.

The third station that I hit was “warm donuts with ice cream”, which were donuts flambéed in Jim Beam with your choice of vanilla or coffee ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and cherries. So yummy, but when I started getting down to the bottom of my bowl, the alcohol was very strong.

The last station I hit was the "warm dessert", I was really looking forward to these desserts. The choices were candy bar bread pudding, chocolate ganache torte with raspberry sauce, and peach, apple and raisin cobbler with rum sauce. Sadly, none of these desserts led up to my expectation. The bread pudding had no flavor. The chocolate ganache torte was ok without the sauce. The cobbler was not what I was looking for, not a traditional cobbler.

The alcoholic choices were scotch, rum, Maker’s Mark 46, Red Stag (in lemonade or hot cranberry juice), sweet Champagne, dry Champagne and red dessert wine (described as Spain’s version of the Canadian Ice Wine).

At about 8:30 pm, we started out walking for our VIP viewing of Illuminations. We had to follow orange lighted batons through the Food and Wine Festival crowd to the front for World Showcase, across from America, between the two stores. We had to show our wrist bands to get into the area which was quite large, and we had plenty of room around us to breathe.

What made the event was the 3D glasses. I can not describe how magical it was to watch the fireworks through these special 3D glasses. When the first firework went into the air, the whole crowd gasped. On every light of the firework was 2 mickey heads, so the sky was full of falling mickeys. It truly was a perfect end to the evening!

Overall, I think the event was well worth the money. We all enjoyed ourselves and got to experience something new at Epcot.

Cost of Event: $45.00 USD per person, plus tax. Gratuity included. Theme park admission is required.

Review: Barefoot Pool Bar

After a long day at a Disney World park, there is nothing better to do than to unwind at the pool or on the beach at the Polynesian Resort with a drink in hand.

The Barefoot Pool Bar is located at the main pool and offers frozen or on the rocks drinks along with beer, wine and some non-alcoholic choices.

I choose to try the Pina CoLAVA, which is a Pina Colada with Raspberry syrup. It was good and really hit the spot on a warm evening. But what made the drink even better was being able to enjoy it while sitting on the beach watching the sunset. It doesn't get any more relaxing than that!

Packing for Disney

This was Siena's first trip to Disney (did I mention how excited I was to take Siena on her first trip to Disney...like jumping up and down excited!) and the first time I have ever taken a baby to Disney. There was so much planning, organizing and packing to do.

What to pack?
There is so much to pack for a trip away from home with a baby. From diapers to formula and a stroller to nightlight, I created a check list to use, which you can find here.

Some items on this list you might not need. I have chosen to bring my own stroller, where you could just rent one each day at the park, however with a baby I want a stroller that can recline for better napping. In addition, you would not have to bring a pack-n-play, most hotels can provide you will a portable crib, I just prefer my own. This list is a guideline, feel free to modify it to what you need.

What to bring to the park each day?
I used a backpack to carry all the items that I needed for Siena each day at the parks. The backpack has several compartments, which made finding items I need easier, however you will have to open each compartment to go through security. In the first compartment, I will have diapers, wipes, a changing table pad, a burp cloth, a blanket, and a change of clothes. The second compartment will house all her feeding items: bottles with liners, formula (I am using the little packets that are premeasured), a sippy cup, baby food, spoon and washcloth. The remaining items will be in various small pockets: purell, pacifiers, pacifier wipes, sunscreen, infant pain reliever and teething medicine.

To make lunch and dinner for Siena easy while in the park, I made up packets. I took a ziplock bag and put a disposable bowl filled with cereal or baby food (the baby food will have to be added the morning of, along with a frozen gel pack), a disposable spoon and washcloth.

Each night I repacked the backpack with diapers, formula packets, a bottle of water, new burp cloths, clean bottles and new 'food packets'.

This system worked really well for me. I never found myself missing anything at the park, in addition I did not have too much to carry.

Mickey Ears...Chapeau Hat Shoppe

Classic Disney...Mickey ears with your name embroidered on the back. I had to get a pair of 'ears' for Siena. I knew there was a shop on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom that did the embroidering, I just was not sure where it was. We found it on the right side of Main Street after Tony's Restaurant.

The shop has a large selection of 'ears' and offered several types of font and thread coloring for the embroidering. We went with the original Mickey ears ($11.95) with the embroidering in 'traditional' font in white ($3.00).

Once we picked out our 'ears' and paid for our order, it was only about five minutes until the embroidering was complete. The personalized Mickey ears is a perfect souvenir for Siena's first trip to Disney World.

Disney - It's all in the location

I have been to Disney World several times, however this is the first time I have taken a baby (8 months old). I prefer to stay on Disney due to the proximity to the parks and the guest benefits (like free transportation, sending your packages back to your hotel and the best one...extra magic hours). I normally stay at a moderate hotel level or at the Shades of Green (the military hotel). But for this trip we decided to splurge and booked the Polynesian Resort...it was so worth it!

Upon check-in, we received leis and an aloha greeting. We had opted to use the online check-in service, which allowed us to verify all of our information online and provide a credit card for the remaining balance. Then when we arrived at the hotel, we looked for the online check-in desk and our welcome packet was waiting for us.

Our room at the Polynesian was located in the Tokelau building on the first floor, which worked out perfectly for us. The building was centrally located. It was close to the main pool, the ceremonial house, and the Ticket and Transportation Center (which you can walk to, to catch the monorail to Epcot). Not to mention the quiet pool was located right next to our building.

Our room was large...it had two queen beds, a day bed (great for night-time feedings for our little one), two chairs, a dresser and a desk. The room also had two closets, a mini-fridge and a safe. You can request a crib, however we opted to bring our own pack-n-play. Something I really liked about the hotel room (which is kinda funny), the lights on the headboard and one by the daybed are on dimers, so you can turn them on as bright or dim as you like. We used them like a night light...perfect! One thing I worried about being on the first floor was that we would hear a lot of noise, however that was not the case. We never heard any noise, it was so quiet.

The Polynesian is located on the Magic Kingdom resort monorail line. It was very quick to hop on the monorail at the ceremonial house and to be at Magic Kingdom in minutes. Or walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center and hop on the monorail to Epcot.

Before going to the parks (Magic Kingdom or Epcot), we loaded our baby into the stroller, added our bags and rolled her out of our room and onto the monorail. When we got to the park we rolled her off the monorail through the gates and were on our way. When we needed a break, we jumped back on the monorail and back to our room to cool, off take a nap, or go for a swim.

The only thing I disliked about the hotel was that the bus service to Hollywood Studies, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney and the water parks is shared with the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian which makes the trip to and from those locations longer.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Polynesian and look forward to future visits!

Siena at 8 Months

Book Review: Big Red Barn

We went to the bookstore this weekend looking for new books for Siena. I was sure that the bookstore would have a nice selection compared to the superstores that I normally shop at.

Well, I was very disappointed. I kept comparing each book to books that I had as a child. In the end, I did find one book that had a great story with good illustrations.

Big Red Barn
By: Margaret Wise Brown

This book has a couple lines per page just enough but not too much that it loses Siena’s interest. In addition, the book rhymes, which I really like. This book teaches colors, animal sounds, and opposites within the story where it’s NOT just saying “this is a red ball” with a picture of a red ball. And Siena seems to really enjoy the book.

As a side note, Big Red Barn is by the same author as Goodnight Moon, but I have to say, in my opinion, Big Red Barn is far superior.

I will try the bookstore again to see if I can find additional books for Siena, but in the mean time, I guess I will be forced to read her my books from when I was a child – yes I still have them.

I offered for my dad to come over to dinner, since my mom is out of town. But he ended up not coming over, that's ok more for me. But I'll try again tonight to give away the yummy dark chocolate cake.

BBQ Chicken Pizza on the Grill

It's my new love! And my best one yet, although there is a huge hole in the middle of my pizza.

You HAVE to have all the ingredients ready to go BEFORE you put the dough on the grill because it will go fast.

Ingredients:
1 package of canned pizza dough (you could make your own but this works good and it's easy)
BBQ sauce
Cilantro, chopped
Chicken, cubed
Mozzarella Cheese, grated
Onions, chopped

Preheat the grill, spray with cooking spray (like Pam). Unroll pizza dough and cover with some olive oil.

I turn the grill down low so that the dough doesn't burn.

Keep checking the dough to make sure it gets grill marks but doesn't burn.

Turn all the burners off but one and flip the dough over. Pile all your ingredients on and then turn the other burners back on low and close the lid so that it cooks and melts the cheese. Keep checking it.

Oatmeal Fruit Salad

Another really easy recipe!

Ingredients:
1 cup vanilla yogurt
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 - 2 cups of fruit (anything in season or can of fruit cocktail)
1 packet of cinnamon swirl instant oatmeal

Mix everything together.

Dark Chocolate Cake with Butter cream Frosting

Ribbon Book

I made my daughter a book of ribbons for her to play with and chew on, since she loves to put every tag (like toy and clothing tags) in her mouth.

I took a piece of fleece and using my sewing machine (that I've only used for scrapbooking) stiched on loops of ribbon in different sizes and textures. Then I stitched two pieces of fleece together with the ribbon tabs on the outside. Below is the results...

Planning 1st Birthday

I am in the process of planning my daughter's first birthday party. I want it to be extra special, since her birthday is only 3 days after Christmas.

I chose my color palette of blue, red and white. I first fell in love with this color palette from this blog I am in love the shirt and tutu the little girl is wearing! (Which reminds me I need to contact my husband's cousin and see if she can make a tutu for me) And then this blog confirmed the color palette for me. I love the polka dot cake...too cute.

Well now that I know the color scheme and my daughter's outfit. I guess next up will be the menu and decor.

Getting Organized with Baby on the Way

Since I am 21 weeks pregnant and I know that once baby comes I am not going to have as much time to scrapbook I want to be caught up by the time the baby makes it's appearance. My next issue is that my house is on the market, so I have to keep my scrapping room "clean". And my scrapbook desk is usually a disaster especially when I am in the middle of a project.

Well I came up with a solution and it seems to be working so far. I created my own scrapbook "kits". As I have time, usually at night while I am watching tv, I create/sort my "kits".

Below is a list of steps I used:
1) Take all photos and seperated them by layouts and put them in 13x15 "ziplock" bags
2) Write titles and journaling for each layout and add to the bags
3) Look through scrapbook magazines/online galleries to find layout ideas and place in the bag
4) Go through stash and pull pattern paper and cardstock and add to the bags
5) Optional...add emellishments for each layout to bags (especially helpful if you are the type of person to you buy a specific embellishment for a layout and then forget about the embellishment until after the layout is created)

Now the next time I want to scrapbook I can pull out a "kit" and everything is right there. And if something interrupts me (hopefully someone wanting to look at the house!) I can put everything back in the "bag" and hide it away until next time.

Today was Louisiana State Parks free admission day, therefore we went up to Rosedown Plantation in St. Francisville to tour the house and gardens again. And for the inside, I made little cards that allow me to write down who I enjoyed the bottle with and my thoughts. Of course I put it all together with my Bind it All.

Snow in Baton Rouge, LA!

I can't believe it is snowing in Baton Rouge, LA. This is the first time since I have lived here (almost 5 years) that it has snowed at my house. It's beautiful! And what a way to put you into the Christmas spirit.

My Christmas tages are photos of my husband and me when we were little. I printed the photos on Bazzill cardstock and then cut them out using deco scissors and placed them on Cosmo Cricket pattern paper. I punched a hole in each one and threaded some baker's string through. I stamped on the back of each one "To:" Now I just need to wrap presents and put them on them.

St. Nick Visted and the Bounty

Yesterday, St. Nickolas visted our house and even left a present for Sugar Ray.

We also went down to the Mississippi to see the Bounty, which starred in the movies Mutiny on the Bounty and Pirates of the Carribean II - Dead Man's Chest. It is a beautiful ship.

In addition, we also went to see Ellis Marsalis perform. His group was fabulous and we had a wonderful evening filled with jazz.

Wallet Size Photos

I had been looking for a simple way to create wallet size photos using 4 different photos per 4x6 print size that I can purchase for the same price as a normal photo.

I came across this website on a 2Peas post: Photility and I love it! It is so easy to use!

Directions:
Download the Photosheet software (for free). Open Photosheet and select how many photo you want on the sheet and how big you want it. Then open your folder with your photos, grab your photo and drop it into the program. It leaves your original photo in place and when you have dropped all the photos you want just click "start" and it saves your creation in the folder you pulled the photos from. Then print using your favorite company.

We went and saw our student's production of MacBeth last night at BRCC. It was a modern take on the Shakespearean play with cool music. The play was really good; all the students and faculty members did an excellent job!

Now to the layout...I created this one using Parisian Studio's November Kits about our daily walk with our baby, Sugar Ray. Every morning and evening we walk around a couple blocks with him. And most of the time he is well behaved.

Christmas Progress

I started working on my 25 days until Christmas album that is inspired by Ali Edwards.

I took an 8x8 Zutter BIA acrylic covers and cut it down to 6x8 using my Friskers paper cutter (slow and steady to have it cut without splintering). Then I cut a bunch of different papers; circles, vellum, envelopes, Bingo cards, planner pages from 1964, etc. I even started putting dates on my pages. But I am waiting on some more paper that I ordered to be delivered before I finish my album.

I also worked on an advent calendar that I had picked up last year from Making Memories. I adhered pattern paper to the front of each box and sanded the edges before putting on the numbers. Now I just need to fill it with little gifts.

Changing Colors

One thing I really miss about living up North is the leaves changing colors. I have lived in Baton Rouge for four and a half years and never get to see the fall tradition. So I was really surprised when I walked past this tree at work and saw the leaves turning red. "I don't believe it!" I whipped out my camera and took a couple photos. It's a silly thing to be so happy about but it makes it feel more like fall when the leaves change colors.

I've been to Disney several times and I didn't want to just do a traditional album. So, I decided to do the ABC's of Disney. I had a hard times coming up with a couple of the letters and I think I am still working on finding an "O" but I started my 8x8 album this week. Below are a couple photos of the first couple pages. Postcard Album

I fell in love with these postcards from Hawaii and immediately knew that I wanted to use them to create a mini album. I always look at postcards and I want to use them for something and this was the perfect project.

I used photos of Kip and me together from our trip to Hawaii. The paper, cardstock, buttons and brads are from Parisian Studio's October kit. The only additional items I used were felt flowers and foam thickers from American Crafts. I love the way it turned out!

Handwritten Journaling

I do not love my handwriting and my spelling is horrible, but more and more frequently it is all I am using on my layouts.

Why you ask?
1. It's quicker (my computer is on the other side of the house)
2. I find I get more scrapping done if I don't leave "my room"
3. To me it's more personal.

So how do I overcome my problems with handwriting my journaling?

Here are a couple techniques:
1. Use a journaling block stamp (keeps you straight)
2. Journal around a photo, the edge of a layout, or embellishment (also keeps you straight and provides a decorative accent)
3. Write your journaling out on a scrap of paper to get you ideas and spelling correct before placing on you layout
4. Write your journaling on a tag, sticker, etc. before placing on your layout, so if you make a mistake you haven't ruined your layout
5. Most importantly remember it's your memories as long as you are telling the story there is no way you can go wrong.

Design Book

I decided I wanted to create a design book, where I could draw out sketches, write out journaling and copy down quotes. I made the following book in about an hour. I cut chipboard, white paper and lined paper down to about 6 1/2 x 6. I put two dividers into the book to separate the lined paper from the blank paper. I covered all the chipboard with October Afternoon paper and added embellishments (notice I ran out of e's and instead used a astrick). Then I bound everything together with my Bind-it-all. I packed it into my purse to take with my on my trip. I can't wait to start using it. It's just so pretty (if I do say so myself)!

I am thinking about using this information to do a scrapbook layout. Below are my results:

I have been working on layouts with the new products for Parisian Studio's October kits, and I can't share those with you yet. But I dug through my stash and pulled out some items to use on this layout. I love the contrast between the older buildings on 6th street in Austin and the newer Frost Bank glass skyscraper.

It's beginning to feel like Fall

I love when it gets cool enough that we can have a fire and roast marshmallows. It's so great to have the cool breeze and the warmth of the fire against my skin. The weather here in Baton Rouge has been great this past week. And we have been taking advantage of it...we took a bike ride this morning, had a fire tonight and tomorrow we are going to go play tennis. Too soon we will be back up in the 90's so we have to enjoy it while we can.

I worked on some layouts this week. The first one is using one of my favorite photos from my childhood. I can't believe my mom let me wear this velvet dress while making cookies! All supplies are from this month's Parisian Studio kits.

This layout is of a photo I took at the Texas State Capital. I mixed the page elements from the July, August and September Parisian Studio kits.

This is a question my mom use to ask me all the time. She was telling me to live life how I wanted to, do what I wanted no matter how scared I was, and just enjoy life, because what's the worse that can happen?

I guess that's why I took the leap and started Parisian Studio. I had thought about starting my own company for a long time, but I was scrared to take the risk, but the old question kept coming back, "what would you do if you knew you would not fail?" So I did it and only time will tell how successfull it will be :)

Life is too short...what would you do if you you knew you would not fail?

Midweek Layout

I wanted to create a layout about my "new" home (ok so I have been living here for four and a half years). One of the things I love about Baton Rouge is the weather in the mid-late fall through spring....it's great! So much better than cold, snowy days. So in the heat of the Southern summer I wanted to remind myself about how wonderful Louisiana will be in just a couple short weeks. And how much time I will be spending outside!

I love the new October Afternoon pp included in the Parisian Studio's September kits! The colors and feel of these papers look great with these 1990 photos from Branson.

I had ran out of o's so I used a button in the title.

The photo on this layout is not the greatest, it's a scan of a damaged slide, but I wanted to record the memory.
Sometimes people ask you if actually use the $1 studio g stamps, well on this layout I used the 'vacation' stamp from series 17. I stamped in black ink and then colored in the letters with colored pencils.

Have you scrapbooked September 11, 2001? I haven't yet, but today might be the perfect day.

I remember where I was and how I felt when I heard the news. I was at work (Sterling Education Services in Eau Claire, WI) and one of my co-worker's daughter called to tell her. After the inital call, my more family members called giving us different information. We were all searching the internet for any news we could get. During the first day, especially the first couple hours, the information that was broadcasted was full of uncertainty and speculation. I remember watching the tv during my lunch break and after work just taking in everything that I heard. It was a surreal experience, it felt like it was a movie...that it couldn’t be real life.

But what had happened was very real. The more I listened to the individual stories the sadder and more depressed I became. To think that someone would want to hurt that many innocent people is unimaginable.

One thing I think the terrorists did not count on when they attacked was how committed and patriotic Americans would become and how far we would go to ensure our freedom.

It’s been seven years and even though the USA has been through many changes, every year we stop on September 11th to remember those you are no longer with us.

My Backyard Mini Book

I have been wanting to do this book for a long time and finally got around to it today. When I first bought my house the backyard was all cement with three nasty sheds across them. So I came up with this plan to create a raised fenced in "courtyard". Last spring my dad and I built forms, poured cement, make steps and put up fence posts (he actually put up the fence pickets by himself). Then Kip and I laid a small patio and walkway and planted a bunch of plants. I love the result. My courtyard continues to fill in and evolve each season. I added in the tags that come on the plant, therefore I can refer back to them if needed. I also left blank pages in the back of the book so I can add more photos as I add additional plants or each spring to show the grow of my backyard. Below are some photos of my mini book.

EXTRA Long Weekend

So what started out as a 3 day holiday weekend has turned into an extra long weekend. Due to Hurricane Gustav, I had all of last week off.
